WEAVING ON EMBROIDERY HOOP
LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- 6 inch embroidery hoop
- DMC 3 ply crochet cotton
- Coloured yarns in varying weights and colours
- Hot glue gun
- Large darning needle (preferably with a wide eye)
INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1
Secure your cotton with a firm knot at any point on the inner ring of your embroidery hoop.
STEP 2
Wind this up and down over the hoop to create the warp for your weaving. You will find that there is a
limit to how far you can do this across the diameter of your hoop before the curve becomes too steep and it starts slipping. Once you reach this point secure the other end with another firm knot.
STEP 3
To keep the strands of cotton in place, cover the places where they cross the hoop in a thin layer of hot glue. Allow this to dry before putting the outer ring of your embroidery hoop in place.
STEP 4
Thread your yarn onto your needle and, leaving a few inches of yarn at the beginning, start to weave
the yarn onto your weft. When you have done enough of one colour, tie it off, and begin the next. Continue until you have woven as far as you can. Tie off the ends and hang.
