Step 2 – Fold WC in half and attach to dowel using an LHK as follows: 2x2.5, 3x3, 8x3.5, 3x3, 2x2.5. There are now 36 lengths.
Step 3 – Measure down roughly 8cm skip first 2 WC, make 1 SK with next 4 WC. Make another SK with next 4 cords 2mm higher (as these will make the top/peak part of the love heart shape). Make 1 SK with next 4 WC level with first. Skip 8 WC and repeat SK with next 12 WC, with last 2 WC left unworked.
Step 4 – Make 4 SK with first 16 WC. Skip 4 WC, make 4 SK with next 16 WC. (ASK pattern)
Step 5 – Skip first 2 WC, make 8 SK with next 32 WC, with last 2 WC left unworked.
Step 6 – Make SK with all 36 WC. The 5th square knot marks the centre of the love heart shape.
Step 7 – Skip first 2 WC, make 8 SK with next 32 WC, with last 2 WC left unworked.
Step 8 – Continue to work in ASK, skipping 4 WC at the beginning of the next row, with last 4 WC left unworked. Continue in this pattern, increasing the number of cords by 2 unworked at the beginning and end, until only 1 centre SK is worked.
Step 9 – Start next row 5cm from the last knot of the larger love heart. Skip 6 WC, make 2 SK with next 8 WC. Skip 8 WC, make 2 SK with next 8 WC. This is the top/peak part of the smaller love heart shape.
Step 10 – Skip first 4 WC, make 3 SK with next 12 WC, skip next 4 WC, make 3 SK with next 12 WC, with last 4 WC left unworked.
Step 11 – Skip first 6 WC, make 6 SK with next 24 WC, with last 6 WC left unworked.
Step 12 – Skip first 4 WC, make 7 SK with next 28 WC, with last 4 WC left unworked.
Step 13 – Continue to work in ASK, skipping 6 WC at the beginning of the next row, with last 6 WC left unworked. Continue in this pattern, increasing the number of cords unworked by 2 at the beginning and end, until only 1 centre SK is worked.
Step 14– Starting level with the top of the 3rd last row of SK, take the first cord and use as a FC, lay across the work diagonally in line with the heart shape point. Work a row of DDHHR, with the next 17 WC. Take the last WC on the left and lay diagonally to meet the point. Working from left to right make DDHHL with WC 35 to 18.
Step 15 – To complete the point, work DDHHR with right hand FC around first FC.
Step 16 – Use a brush or a fork to unravel the ends of all the strands to create a fringe and cut with scissors to form a point in line with the last row of knots approx. 15cms or desired length . Hang on a wall using fishing line to finish!
