HALLOWEEN SPELLS AND POTIONS BOOK

Level: Beginner
What you'll need:
- Paper Mache Book Box or old book
- Jo Sonja Matte Black Acrylic Paint
- 2 x Paint brushes
- Amaco Run 'n Buff (Antique Gold)
- Mod Podge for Paper 236mL
- Tissue Paper (one sheet)
- Hot Glue Gun and glue sticks
- Spook embellishment (we used a bat from the Steampunk Jewellery range)
- Impermeable protective gloves
- Soft cloth
Instructions
- Crumple the tissue paper. Use a brush to paint the book outer surfaces with Mod Podge. Place the tissue paper on the glue covered surface. You want it to look crumpled and textured. Make sure there is glue around the inside edges and wrap the tissue around and over the edges for a nice finish. If it is not looking textured enough you can add another layer. Allow 2 hours to dry.
- Once dry paint the book with matt black paint and allow to dry for approximately 2 hours.
- Glue embellishments in place, if using, leaving space for the book title. Use the hot glue gun to embellish the book cover and spine with borders, works, ridges and dots. Practice first on a scrap piece of cardboard to perfect your technique and lettering. Don't worry if the lettering doesn't look perfect. This will add to the spooky charm. Allow 15 minutes for the hot glue to set.
- Wearing the protective gloves and using a soft cloth apply a thin coat of the Rub 'n Buff to the hot glue words and embellishments with a gentle rubbing motion. You can also rub small amounts sparingly on the black paint to create shiny highlights if desired. Rubbing a very small amount on the exposed page edges can look effective also. Once dry buff the gold highlights to create a luster
