How To Best Arrange Your Bedroom Furniture
Those who have bought some new bedroom furniture from Spotlight's affordable range might be wondering about the best manner to arrange their new furniture pieces. While most people just put down their bedroom furniture according to their own preferences, there are some general guidelines that can promote sleep and relaxation. Here is our guide to make your bedroom the best it can be.
Where Should I Place My Bed?
The bed is the most important of your bedroom furniture, so it is only evident that the bed is the first thing you will be placing in your bedroom. One of the things to consider during this process is the overall layout of your bedroom.
In most cases, it is best to place the foot of the bed closer to the doorway, this creates the most relaxed environment. Placing the head of the bed close to the doorway creates a feeling of uneasiness, especially in a family home where there is lots of foot traffic.
If you have a small or a medium sized bedroom, it is always best to put your bed against the wall opposite the doorway. However, always make sure that you can easily make your way around the bed.
Those who have a larger bedroom could consider placing their bed near one of the bedrooms corners. This can create a more dramatic look, but still gives that relaxed vibe most people are looking for.
How Should I Place Statement Pieces In Relation To The Bed?
It is never a good idea to put your statement pieces too close to the bed, this because it creates a closed-off feeling. Statement pieces can easily create claustrophobic environments if they are placed in the wrong way. Ideally, you want to move them on the opposite side of the bed.
Smaller bedrooms might be trickier to work with. If space is a serious issue, it is often better to choose smart storage options opposed to big statement pieces. So, leave the wall opposed to the bed free of any furniture to still get that relaxed vibe every bedroom benefits from.
Should I Have Nightstands?
Even smaller bedrooms can benefit from nightstands. Opposed to some of our other tips today, nightstands have a more functional role instead of a Feng Shui role. Of course, they can complement the bed if they share similar colours. In addition to that, they make the adjacent walls look less naked without making you feel claustrophobic.
Can I Get A Dresser In A Smaller Bedroom?
It is possible to put dressers in smaller bedrooms. If you have a free window, choose a low dresser and put it right underneath the window. Of course, most small bedrooms have limited space for dressers, so other solutions may need to be called upon.
There are various ways to get storage in a smaller bedroom. Here are some of our favourite options for your consideration.
Shelf with rail - One of the popular options for small bedrooms is a shelf with a rail underneath. Not only does this give you instant access to your clothes, you can avoid a lot of folding at the same time!
Please note, do not put too much clutter on top of the shelf, just some simple decorations. Too many decorations or clutter can make your bedroom quite unpleasant.
Bed storage - Some beds are designed to provide storage, this includes the so-called ottoman beds. They can be used to store your bed linen, but also clothing. Of course, keeping smaller items such as clothing organised may require some additional storage boxes in the ottoman bed.
The ottoman bed is just one of the many options available to you. There are beds that have some drawers on the side as well. Deep bed drawers can be better for socks and clothing, so this is another option you need to consider.
Small dresser drawers - Small dresser drawers can be brilliant for small bedrooms as well and you can get all your clothes in there. Just look up the Marie Kondo folding method to maximise the room available to you and still get easy access to all your clothes and your accessories.
Please note that beds and mattresses can be sold as a package deal and they can prove more affordable than if you were to purchase each item on its own. Therefore, it is worth looking for one of these deals if you are able to.
