INSTRUCTIONS

SPECIAL STITCHES

4trcl = 4 treble cluster: (yarn over hook, insert hook into st indicated, pull a loop through, yarn over hook, pull through 2 loops on hook) 4 times, yarn over hook, pull through all loops on hook.

Dbltr = double treble

Dc2tog = double crochet 2 stitches together: (insert hook into next st and pull a loop through) twice, yarn over hook and pull through all loops on hook

Dc3tog = double crochet 3 stitches together: (insert hook into next st and pull a loop through) 3 times, yarn over hook and pull through all loops on hook

Dc5tog = double crochet 5 stitches together: (insert hook into next st and pull a loop through) 5 times, yarn over hook and pull through all loops on hook

Htr = half treble: yarn over hook, insert hook through st indicated, pull a loop through, yarn over hook, pull a loop through all loops on hook

HEART 1

Using 3.25mm hook and C1, make 22ch, sl st into 1st ch, making sure ch is not twisted.

1st round - 3ch (counts as tr), 1dc in same st, 1dc in each of next 5 sts, 2dc in each of next

3 sts, dc5tog, 2dc in each of next 3 sts, 1dc in each of next 5 sts, 1dc in same st as 3ch at beg, sl st into 3rd of 3ch at beg ... 26 sts.

2nd round - 4ch (counts as dbltr), 1tr in same st, 1tr in each of next 5 sts, 2tr in each of next 5 sts, 1htr in next st, dc3tog, 1htr in next st, 2tr in each of next 5 sts, 1tr in each of next 5 sts, 1tr in same st as 4ch at beg, sl st into 4th of 4ch at beg ... 36 sts.

3rd round - 3ch, 1tr in same st, 1tr in each of next 7 sts, 2tr in each of next 3 sts, place stitch marker in top of last st, 2tr in each of next 4 sts, 1tr in next st, 1htr in next st,

dc3tog, 1htr in next st, 1tr in next st, 2tr in each of next 7 sts, 1tr in each of next 7 sts,

(2tr, 1dbltr) in same st as 3ch at beg, sl st into 3rd of 3ch at beg. Fasten off.

HEARTS 2-9

Using C1 and 3.25mm hook - 1st and 2^nd rounds - rep 1st and 2nd rounds of Heart 1.

3rd round - 3ch, 1tr in same st, 1tr in each of next 7 sts, 2tr in each of next 3 sts, place stitch marker in top of last st, 2tr in each of next 4 sts, 1tr in next st, 1htr in next st,

dc3tog, 1htr in next st, 1tr in next st, 2tr in each of next 4 sts, insert hook through top of stitch-marked tr of previous heart, * yarn over hook, insert hook into next st of current heart, [pull a loop through, yarn over hook, pull a loop through 2 loops on hook, yarn over hook, pull a loop through all loops on hook], insert hook through top of next st of previous heart, yarn over hook, insert hook through SAME st of current heart, rep [ ] once **, insert hook through top of next st of previous heart, rep from * to ** once (hearts joined through 4 sts in total), 2tr in next st, 1tr in each of next 7 sts, (2tr, 1dbltr) in same

Fasten off.

Once 4 panels of 9 joined hearts are completed, move on to the heart edges.

HEART EDGE

Using C4 and 3.25mm hook, and working in the front loop only, attach yarn to dbltr at bottom of central heart - 1st round - 1ch, 3dc in same st, * 1dc in each of next 10 sts,

BEG TEXTURED SIDES TO HEART PANELS

TOP SIDE

Using C4 and 3.25mm hook, attach yarn to 3rd of 5tr in one st at one top end of heart panel.

1st row - 3ch (counts as tr throughout), 1tr in each st across to 3rd of 5tr in one st at other end of panel, turn. Change to C3 -

2nd row - 3ch, 1tr in next st, * 2ch, miss 2 sts, 1tr in each of next 2 sts, rep from * to end.

3rd row - 1ch, 1dc in same st, 1dc in next st,

* 1tr.over in each of next 2 sts, 1dc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * to end.

4th row - 3ch, 1tr in next st, * 1tr.over in each of next 2 sts, 1tr in each of next 2 sts, rep from * to end.

5th - 9th rows - Rep 3rd and 4th rows twice, then 3rd row once.

10th row - 3ch, 1tr in next st, * 1tr.over in each of next 2 sts, 1tr in each of next 2 sts, rep from * to end. Fasten off.

BOTTOM SIDE

Using C4 and 3.25mm hook, attach yarn to 3rd of 5dbltr in one st at one bottom end of heart panel.

1st row - 3ch (counts as tr throughout), 1tr in each st across to 3rd of 5dbltr in one st a other end of panel, 2tr in 3rd of 5 dbltr, turn.

2nd - 10th rows - Rep 2nd to 10th rows of top side. Fasten off. Set aside one panel to be used as the top panel of the blanket. Work the following rows on the rem 3 panels.

BEG TWO-COLOUR SECTION

TO HEART PANELS

Using C4 and 3.25mm hook, attach yarn to end tr at textured top of heart panel.

1st row - 3ch, 1tr in each st across. Change to C2 - 2nd row - 4ch (counts as tr,

1ch), 4trcl in next st, * 4ch, miss 6 sts, (4trcl, 2ch, 4trcl) in next st, rep from * to last 8 sts,

4ch, miss 6 sts, 4trcl in next st, 1ch, 1tr in last st.

Change to C4 - 3rd row - 1ch, 1dc in same st, 2dc in next 1ch sp, miss 4trcl and 1 st two rows below, 1tr.over each of next 4 sts, * miss 4trcl, 3dc in 2ch sp, miss 4trcl and 1^st two rows below, 1tr.over each of next 4 sts, rep from * to last 3 sts, miss 4trcl, 2dc in 1ch sp, 1dc in next st.

4th row - 3ch, 1tr in each st across.

5th row - 1ch, 1dc in same st, 1dc in each st across.

6th - 8th rows - Rep 2nd to 4th rows.

Fasten off.

BORDER

Sew all panels together.

Using C4 and 3.25mm hook, attach yarn to tr at top right corner - 1st round - 3ch

(corner st), 2tr in same st, 1tr in each st across to last st, 5tr in last st (3rd is corner st), rotate to work down long side, work 240tr evenly along side, rotate to work along short side, 5tr in first st (3rd is corner st), 1tr in each st across to last st, 5tr in last st (3rd is corner st), rotate to work down long side, work 240tr evenly down long side,

2tr in same st as 3ch at beg, sl st into 3rd of 3ch at beg.

2nd round - 3ch, turn to work in opposite direction, 2tr in same st, * 1tr in each st along to to corner st, 5tr in corner st, rep from * to 4th corner, 1tr in each st along to 1st corner,

2tr in same st as 3ch at beg, sl st into 3rd of 3ch at beg.

3rd round - Rep 2nd round. Change to C2 -

4th - 7th rounds - Rep 2^nd round.

8th round - 3ch, 2tr in same st, * X-st along to next corner, 5tr in corner st, rep from * to 4th corner, X-st along to 1st corner, 2tr in same st as 3ch at beg, sl st into 3rd of 3ch at beg. Fasten off.

FINISHING

Sew in ends. Gently press heart edge if desired. Block if desired.
