Prepare for sewing

Step 1 - Print out two copies of pattern and tape together. Cut one front piece pattern and one back piece pattern.

Step 2 - Out of fleece fabric, cut one front piece pattern and one back piece pattern on the fold. Unfold each piece and with right sides facing, pin sides and bottom of front and back together starting at base of each arm hole.

Step 3 - For the length of bias binding, using an iron, press open one folded edge ready to sew.

Step 4 - Cut 2 x velcro pieces approx. 2.5cm in width and 1.5cm in height.

Sewing

Step 1 - Using a 1cm seam allowance, sew sack together at sides and base where pinned.

Step 2 - Starting at center back neck, pin bias binding to open edge of sack with right sides together and pressed open edge of the binding matching the edge of neckline. Take care with curves, gently easing the bias tape around corners.

Tip - It helps to pre-press and stretch the bias binding into curves prior to pinning onto your sack

Step 3 - Sew bias strip along pinned edge of garment along the pressed open fold line.

Step 4 - Fold the binding over to the inside of the garment, pin in place and stitch down from right side of garment to get a neat finish. The raw edge of the neckline should now be enclosed. Press lightly to set binding and neaten.

Tip - You can 'stitch in the ditch' where the bias meets the fleece to hide the stitching OR top stitch a few millimeters from the folded edge of the binding.

Step 5 - Place sack right side up with front facing upwards. Pin rough Velcro pieces facing upwards on top straps at front of sack. Pin soft Velcro pieces on the underside of the top back straps that are facing upward. Stitch around the pieces to secure. You have completed your baby sleep sack!
