INSTRUCTIONS

ABBREVIATIONS

Approx = Approximate(ly), Beg = Begin(ning), Ch= Chain(s), Htr = Half treble, Rem = Remain(ing), Rep = Repeat, Dc = Double crochet, Sl st = Slip stitch, St(s) = Stitch(es)

Note - 1 ball will make 2 Hats.

TENSION

9 dc and 10 rows to 10cm using 8mm crochet hook.

The instructions are written for smaller size. If changes are necessary for larger size the instructions will be written thus ( ).

Note - Hat is worked sideways.

Ch 25 (27).

1st row - 1 htr in 3rd ch from hook. 1 htr in each ch to last 5 ch. 2 dc in each of next 2 ch. Sl st in each of last 3 ch. Turn.

2nd row - Ch 1. Working in front loops only, sl st in each of first 3 sts. Working in front loops only, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts. Working in horizontal bar only, created by htr at front of work, 1 htr in each st to end of row. Turn.

3rd row - Ch 2 (does not count as st). Working in horizontal bar only, created by htr at front of work, 1 htr in each st to last 5 sts.

Working in front loops only, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc. Working in front loops only, sl st in each of last 3 sts. Turn.

Rep 2nd and 3rd rows until work from beg measures 40.5 (43) cm.

Fasten off, leaving a long end. Weave end through last sl st of each row along top edge and gather tightly. Sew back seam.

TASSEL (make 2).

Cut a piece of cardboard 7.5 cm wide. Wind yarn around cardboard 20 times.

Break yarn, leaving a long end and thread end through a needle.

Slip needle through all loops and tie tightly. Remove cardboard and wind yarn tightly around loops 1.5 cm below fold.

Fasten securely. Cut through rem loops and trim ends evenly. Sew Tassel to each side of Hat.
