FRANCHEVILLE TIMBER PLACEMATS

Level: Easy
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- 'Kaisercraft' Timber Placemats
- 'Jo Sonja' Acrylic Paint
- 'Craftsmart' Liquid Gloss 250ml
- Paint Brushes
- Plastic Cup and wooden popsicle stick
- Heatgun
- Extra plastic cups
- Cardboard or surface protection
INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1 - Start by painting your timber placemats in your chosen design. Working with one colour at a time we painted sections of each placemat and coaster then left to dry before moving onto the next colour. This resulted in a fun colourful and layered looking design. The colours we chose were quite bright so didn't require a second coat but if your paint is a bit transparent allow it to dry completely before painting a second coat.
Step 2 - Once the placemats and coasters are dry you can prepare your Craftsmart Liquid Gloss. Start by mixing equal parts of the bottles into a plastic cup. Mix together for a couple of minutes with a wooden Popsicle stick.
Step 3 - Prepare your work surface. Lay down some cardboard or something to protect your work surface and place plastic cups on top. These will support your placemats and coaster and allow the resin to drip over the edges so make sure they are spaced enough to avoid contact with each other.
Step 4 - Now pour the resin over the wood allowing it to flow in different directions until the whole piece is covered. You may need to tilt the placemats and coasters to help the flow of the resin.
Step 5 - Lastly use the heat gun to burst any air bubbles from the surface of the resin, this will give the tray a nice clean and smooth finish.
Step 6 - Leave them to dry over night before use.
