Instructions
Step 1 - Place your 8.5" squares into groups of squares as follows right side together with 1 x square of fabric 7.
- Fabric 6 & fabric 7 x 4
- Fabric 3 & fabric 4 x 4
- Fabric 2 & fabric 7 x 4
- Fabric 4 x fabric 7 x 8
Step 2 - As per the groupings above, place the squares right sides together in sets of two. For example, 1 x square of fabric 6.
Step 3 - Using your HST ruler, place diagonally onto the back of whichever is the lighter fabric and rule a line along each side of the fabric following the edge of the ruler. This is your sewing line so needs to be clear for you to follow when sewing.
Step 4 - Place a couple of pins along the drawn lines in the fabrics to hold the two squares together.
Step 5 - Sew along the 2 drawn diagonal lines. Take care to sew on the inside of the line i.e. towards the opposite drawn line. This will ensure that your square does not reduce in size when you cut it.
Step 6 - After sewing both lines, use a ruler and cut in half (corner to corner). You have created 2 blocks of HST. Squares will measure 8".
Step 7 - Continue with the other fabric groups.
Step 8 - Press all squares open with seams to one side.
Step 9 - refer to diagrams for Block A & Block B divide all of your squares into the following groups
Block A (make 4)
Divide into 4 separate groups -
2 x 8" square Fabric 1
1 x 8" square Fabric 7
1 x 8" square Fabric 3
1 x 8" square Fabric 5
2 x HST 8" squares Fabric 7/Fabric 6
2 x HST 8" squares Fabric 3/Fabric 4
Block B (make 4)
Divide into 4 separate groups -
2 x HST 8" square Fabric 7/Fabric 2
4 x HST 8" square Fabric 7/Fabric 4
