SANTA APRON

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1 - Cut 2 apron shapes out of red fabric so that apron is 70cm long and 60cm wide across bottom of apron.

Step 2 - Using 1 apron piece as the front, pin black ribbon across the waist as in the picture - ribbon will be a little longer than the apron is wide. Sew top and bottom edges of ribbon.

Step 3 - Cut gold ribbon into 4 pieces to make the buckle and sew in place.

Step 4 - Cut 3 pieces of red fabric 60cm long and 5cm wide to make the neck strap and waist ties. Fold over 1cm along both long edges of each piece of fabric, then fold over again till edges meet. Press. Top stitch down both long sides of each strap.

Step 5 - Attach ends of neck strap to top of apron front and one end of each waist tie to the top of each side of apron front. Make sure all straps lie towards the centre of the apron.

Step 6 - For the ruffle, cut 2 strips of white fabric 114cm x 18cm and sew these 2 strips together to make one long strip. Press seam flat. Fold ruffle in half lengthwise, right sides together, and sew diagonally across the ends from folded edge (longer) to open edge (shorter). Turn right way out and press ruffle in half lengthwise.

Step 7 - Pin ruffle to lower edge of apron front, starting at black ribbon on one side and working around edge to other side, pleating ruffle to fit as you go. Sew in place.

Step 8 - Place apron back on top of apron front, right sides together, making sure ruffle and straps are tucked in towards the middle, out of the way. Pin together around all edges except along the top.

Step 9 -Sew around edge of apron, leaving the top edge open for turning. Turn right side out and press, tucking in seam allowance along top edge. Topstitch around apron edge.
