Maintaining Your Patterned Upholstery
Our upholstery fabrics are brilliant to reupholster your sofa. Once you have your sofa reupholstered, you can enjoy the fabric for a long time to come. Of course, you will need to keep your upholstery fabric maintained. To ensure you have all your bases covered when it comes to maintenance, we have created a useful guide for you.
How Do I Remove Stains From Patterned Upholstery?
Stains can be a homeowners worst nightmare, especially when they occur on a visible part of furniture such as a sofa. To keep your sofa stain-free, here are some top tips to maintain your sofa quickly and properly.
Time: One of the essential parts of removing stains is time. The longer the stain remains on the sofa, the more difficult it will be to remove. If you notice a stain on your patterned upholstery as soon as possible.
Cleaning recommendations: Most upholstery fabrics have their own set of recommended cleaning products. There are dedicated cleaning products and solutions you can use on this fabric, but you do need to make sure that you have the right one. In some cases, the suitable cleaning product will be indicated by a letter.
When you see the letter "W" on the label, you will have to use a water-based cleaner. Evidently, this type of cleaner has water as its main component. You could also get "S/W" on the label, which is the abbreviation for solvents and water-based cleaners. This means you can use both. Rarely, you will also find the "S" letter on an upholstery label, this means you should only use solvent cleaners.
Spot checking: Before you use any cleaning product on patterned upholstery, it is always recommended to try it on an inconspicuous spot on the fabric. Check for discolorations and stains. If something unusual appears, be sure to use another product.
How To Regularly Maintain Patterned Upholstery?
There are a variety of methods to keep your patterned upholstery clean over time. We will discuss some of the main methods that can be used to keep your upholstery maintained.
Brushing: Some patterned upholstery fabrics can be brushed, this can be done to loosen up stains for easier removal. It can also pull dust and dirt to the surface, making it easier to remove through one of the additional methods we will describe next.
Hoovering: Once you have loosened up the dirt and dust from your sofa, you can easily hoover it up with your vacuum cleaner. When you hoover a sofa, always make sure that you use the proper attachment. Most vacuum cleaners have a dedicated upholstery attachment that make the removal of dust and debris more effective, without damaging your upholstery of course.
Baking soda: Baking soda is a miracle cleaner for most people. While it can be a little abrasive in nature, it does have applications in upholstery cleaning.
Baking soda is a great product to remove odours and loosen stains. Simply mix equal parts of water and baking soda. Then, add the mixture n the stain in question and leave it for approximately 20 minutes. The mixture will absorb the stains and can be easily hoovered up without the need for scrubbing.
Drying: When you clean your sofa, you may encounter some wet patches due to cleaning products or a baking soda solution. When this occurs, we recommend drying your sofa to avoid water damage. A dry microfibre towel is usually the best option. While we don't recommend rubbing it dry, a gentle pat dry will be more than enough to remove any excess liquid from your upholstery.
Once you have dried the area with a towel, you can leave it to air dry. If you have dried it properly with the towel, you should have a completely dry sofa by morning.
