Sew (2) C-D units together, alternating fabric placement, to create (1) Block One square (Fig. 3). Make total of (24) 4½" x 4½" 4-patch units.
Quilt Top Assembly
Follow Quilt Layout (page 6) while assembling the quilt top.
- Sew (1) Fabric D 3" x 42½" strip to opposite long sides of Fabric E panel rectangle. Sew (1) Fabric D 3" x 39½" strip to both the top and bottom ( 4). Trim panel center to measure 38½" x 46½".
- Sew (1) Fabric B 1½" x 46½" strip to opposite long sides of panel center. Sew (1) Fabric B 1½" x 40½" strip to both top and bottom.
- Sew together (6) Block One squares alternating with (6) Fabric A 4½" x 4½" squares to make a side pieced border. Make total of (2) borders. Sew pieced borders to opposite long sides of panel center.
- Sew together (5) Block One squares alternating with (5) Fabric A 4½" x 4½" squares to make a top/bottom pieced border. Make total of (2) borders. Sew remaining pieced borders to top and bottom. Quilt will measure 48½" x 56½".
- Sew (1) Fabric D 1½" x 56½" strip to opposite long sides of panel center. Sew (1) Fabric D 1½" x 50½" strip to both the top and bottom of quilt. Quilt will measure 50½" x 58½".

Layering, Quilting and Finishing
- Create a quilt sandwich with batting between quilt top and backing. Pin or baste layers together, mark quilting design, and quilt by hand or machine. When quilting is complete, remove pins or basting, trim batting and backing even with raw edges of quilt top.
Binding
- Sew (7) 2½" x WOF Fabric D strips together, end-to-end with 45-degree diagonal seams, to make binding. Fold this long strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and press.
- Sew binding to edges of the quilt top, mitering corners, and overlapping ends. Fold binding to back of quilt and stitch it in place by hand to finish.
