KATHERINE HEART QUILT

What you'll need:
- 25cm a selection of 9 different fabrics for the main heart flowers
- 2m background fabric
- 10cm of contrasting fabric for central squares
Finished Size: 142cm x 142cm/ 56 x56 inches
Instructions
Step 1 - Start by preparing your chosen 9 fabrics by cutting out the following pieces:
4.5 x 8.5-inch rectangles x 4
4.5 x 4-inch pieces x 4
Background fabric cut:
4 x 4-inch squares x 36
2 x 2-inch squares x 72
8x 2-inch pieces x 36
Step 2 - Cut x 11, 2-inch sashing strips for joining the large 9 blocks together and the borders of the quilt. Allow 180 x 180cm for backing fabric and 50cm for binding.
Step 3 - Join the 4x4 inch background fabric to the 4 x 4.5-inch feature fabric.
Step 4 - Join this pieced unit to one of the 4.5 x 8.5inch main fabric piece.
Step 4a - Lay the 2 x 2-inch background blocks over the top of each corner of the block and sew diagonally across.
Iron back to create the triangle as below.
Step 5 - Repeat steps 1-3 three more times so you have 4 heart blocks.
Step 6 - With the small 2 x 2-inch squares of contrasting fabric sew the 8 x 2-inch strip to each side, press and set aside.
Step 7 - Lay the 4 blocks out forming the heart flower and sew a 8 x 2 inch background strip in
between each block. repeat with the other two heart blocks.
Step 8 - Join the connecting strip with the 2-inch block in between the two heart block units, forming
the full block.
Step 9 - Assemble all 9 blocks and add the sashing in between each block joining all blocks in your
preferred layout.
