Cushion

Cutting

6 Assorted Fabrics - Cut 2 x 2.5" strips across WOF of each fabric. Crosscut to yield 2.5" squares of each fabric.

Background Fabric - Cut 8 x 2.5" strips across WOF. Crosscut to yield 64 2.5" squares.

Backing Fabric - Cut 2 x 12" x 21.5" rectangles.

Method

Step 1 - With right sides facing, sew one background fabric to each of the assorted coloured fabric pieces. Press seams to one side.

Step 2 - With the right sides facing and keeping your squares in the desired order, sew each piece to the next, making sure to place a background fabric between each of the assorted coloured fabrics.

Step 3 - Following the Layout Diagram, sew your rows together. Press fabrics to one side.

Step 4 - Lay your completed cushion top on your cutting mat. Refer to the Trimming Diagram and, using your ruler, ensure a 1/4" seam allowance remains. Carefully cut along the outside row to create the square cushion shape.

Step 5 - Gather your two backing rectangles and fold 1" over on the longest side, to create a neat facing. Sew a seam to secure the folded fabric. Press with the iron.

Step 6 - Lay the cushion top right side up. Lay your two backing rectangles right sides facing the cushion top and the hemmed edges towards the centre. Match the outside edges. The two backing rectangles will overlap in the middle creating a pillow style. Pin the fabrics together, all the way around the cushion outside edge and then sew.

Step 7 - Turn your cushion outside in and place the cushion insert inside. Cushion is now complete.
