Tension

21 sts and 26 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 4mm needles.

Using pair 4mm needles, cast on 110 sts.

Beg rib

1st row (RS) - K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to end.

2nd row - P2, * K2, P2, rep from * to end.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 10cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Beg patt

1st row (RS) - K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to end.

2nd row - P2, * K2, P2, rep from * to end.

3rd row - Knit.

4th row - Purl.

Rows 1 to 4 incl form patt.

Cont in patt until work measures approx 23cm from beg, ending with a 4th row.

Shape Crown

1st row (RS) - K2, * P2tog, K2, rep from * to end ... 83 sts.

2nd row - P2, * K1, P2, rep from * to end.

3rd row - Knit.

4th row - Purl.

5th row - K2tog, * P1, K2tog, rep from * to end ... 55 sts.

6th row - P1, * K1, P1, rep from * to end.

7th row - Knit.

8th row - Purl.

9th row - K1, * K2tog, K1, rep from * to end ... 37 sts.

10th row - Purl.

11th row - K1, * K2tog, rep from * to end ... 19 sts.

12th row - Purl.

Break off yarn, leaving a long end. Run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

Finishing

Do not press. Using mattress st, join side edges together to form centre back seam. Sew in all ends.
