Measurements
To Fit Head (approx) 56 cm
Tension
21 sts and 26 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 4mm needles.
Using pair 4mm needles, cast on 89 sts.
Knit in garter st (1st row is WS) until work measures 17cm from beg, working last row on WS.
Shape crown
1st row (RS) - * K9, K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 81 sts.
Knit 5 rows garter st.
7th row - * K8, K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 73 sts.
Knit 3 rows garter st.
11th row - * K7, K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 65 sts.
Knit 3 rows garter st.
15th row - * K6, K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 57 sts.
16th row - Knit.
17th row - * K5, K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 49 sts.
18th row - Knit.
19th row - * K4, K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 41 sts.
20th row - Knit.
21st row - K1, * sl 1, K2tog, psso, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 15 sts.
Break off yarn leaving a long end. Run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.
Finishing
Do not press. Using mattress st, join side edges together to form centre back seam. Sew in all ends. Make a pom pom and attach to top of hat as pictured.
