KUNG FU WALL HANGING 2
Level: Intermediate
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- Abbey Road Kung Fu Cotton 100g balls: 2 x Navy, 2 x Blue, 2 x Green, 1 x Beige, 1 x Orange.
- A 5.50mm (UK 5) crochet hook or size required to give correct tension.
- Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure.
- Approx 70cm long rod.
Measurements
Approx 55cm x 106cm
Tension
One Plain Motif measures 13.5cm, using a 5.50mm hook.
Note: The individual motifs are worked diagonally from corner-to-corner, and then sewn together to form the design.
INSTRUCTIONS
HANGING
Plain Motif (make 2 - 1 blue, 1 green)
Using 5.50mm hook, make 3ch.
Beg Increasing -
1st row - Work (1dc, 1ch, 1dc, 1htr) in 3rd ch from hook, turn ... 5 sts (inc 2ch as htr at beg).
2nd row - 1ch (does not count as a st throughout), (1htr, 1dc) in same st, 1ch, miss next st, 1dc in next 1ch sp, 1ch, miss next st, (1dc, 1htr) in last st, turn ... 2htr, 3?2dc and 2 x 1ch sps.
3rd row - 1ch, (1htr, 1dc) in same st, 1ch, miss next st, 1dc in next 1ch sp, rep from to last 2 sts, 1ch, miss next st, (1dc, 1htr) in last st, turn.
4th - 15th rows - Rep 3rd row.
Beg Decreasing -
16th row - 1ch, 1htr in same st, miss next st, 1dc in next 1ch sp, 1ch, miss next st, 1dc in next 1ch sp, rep from to last 2 sts, miss next st, 1htr in last st, turn.
17th - 29th rows - Rep 16th row.
30th row - 1ch, miss next st, draw up a loop through next 1ch sp, miss next st, draw up a loop through last st, yoh and draw through all 3 loops on hook.
Fasten off.
Split Motif (make 4 - first colour Navy, second colour White)
Using first colour and 5.50mm hook, make 3ch.
Work rows 1 to 15 incl as for Plain Motif, changing to second colour on last loop of last htr on 15th row.
Using second colour for rem, work rows 16 to 30 incl as for Plain Motif.
Fasten off.
Make a further 12 motifs in the foll colour combinations: 3 x navy/green, 2 x green/orange, 2 x beige/blue, 2 x beige/green, 2 x beige/navy, 1 x orange, blue.
Half Motif (make 4 - 1 x Navy, 1 x Blue, 1 x Green and 1 x Orange)
Work as for Plain Motif to 15th row. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Block motifs if desired. Sew motifs together according to diagram. Press gently on WS with a cool iron if desired. Using Beige and 5.50mm hook, work 2 rows of dc evenly along both sides and top of hanging, working (2dc, 2ch, 2dc) in each corner. Make 3 tabs for hanging by working 20 rows of dc across 7 sts at each end and in the middle of the top edge. Sew the short edge of each tab to the back of the hanging at the same level as the top of the hanging.
FRINGE
Wind navy, blue, green and orange yarn around a piece of cardboard 20cm wide and cut along one edge. Using crochet hook and one strand per st, fringe evenly along lower edge, matching colours as pictured. Trim to desired length.
