FANTAIL VEST AND ANKLET

Instructions

TENSION

Vest - 26 sts and 34 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 3.50mm needles.

Anklets - 35 sts and 44 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 2.25mm needles.

VEST

BACK AND FRONT (both alike)

Using 3.25mm needles and C1, cast on 48 (54-62-64) sts.

Knit in garter st (1st row is WS) until work measures 2.5cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Change to 3.50mm needles.

Work in stocking st (beg with a knit row) until work measures 8.5 (11.5-13.5-14.5) cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Next row - K1, (K1, P1) 3 (4-5-5) times, knit to last 7 (9-11-11) sts, (P1, K1) 3 (4-5-5) times, K1.

Next row - (K1, P1) 3 (4-5-5) times, K1, purl to last 7 (9-11-11) sts, K1, (P1, K1) 3 (4-5-5) times.

Shape Armholes - 1st row - Rib 7 (9-11-11), sl 1, K1, psso, knit to last 9 (11-13-13) sts, K2tog, rib 7 (9-11-11) ... 46 (52-60-62) sts.

2nd row - Rib 7 (9-11-11), purl to last 7 (9-11-11) sts, rib 7 (9-11-11).

Keeping rib correct, cont dec one st (as before) at each end of every foll alt row until 42 (48-54-60) sts rem, then in every foll 4th row until 36 (40-46-48) sts rem.

Work 1 row.

Shape Neck - Next row (RS) - Rib 7 (9-11-11), cast off next 22 (22-24-26) sts, rib 7 (9-11-11).

Cont in rib on last 7 (9-11-11) sts until armhole measures 10 (11-12-13) cm, working last row on WS. Cast off in rib.

With WS facing, join yarn to rem 7 (9-11-11) sts and complete to correspond with other side.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using a flat seam, join shoulder and side seams.

ANKLETS (beg at top, make 2)

Using set of 2.25mm needles and C1, cast on 48 (54) sts, noting to divide sts evenly over 3 needles, 16 (18) sts each needle.

1st round - * K1, P1, rep from * to end.

Rep 1st round for 2.5cm. Break off C1.

Using C2 for rem, Next round - Knit.

Rep last round until work measures 4cm from beg, dec 6 (8) sts evenly around last round ... 42 (46) sts.

Divide For Heel - Knit first 11 (12) sts of round onto one needle., slip last 11 (12) sts of round onto other end of same needle.

These 22 (24) sts are for heel.

Divide rem 20 (22) sts onto rem 2 needles and leave for instep.

Working in rows on 2 needles, cont as folls -

1st row - Sl 1 purlways, purl to end.

2nd row - Sl 1 knitways, knit to end.

Rep last 2 rows on heel sts and work 15 (17) rows.

Turn Heel - Next row - K13, K2tog, K1, turn, P6 (4), P2tog, P1, turn, K7 (5), K2tog, K1, turn, P8 (6), P2tog, P1, turn.

Cont turning in this manner until all sts are worked onto one needle and 14 sts rem.

Knit first 7 sts, thus completing heel.

Slip all instep sts onto one needle. **

Using another needle and C2, knit rem 7 sts of heel, knit up 10 (11) sts along side of heel, using 2nd needle - knit across all instep sts, using 3rd needle - knit up 10 (11) sts along other side of heel, then knit rem 7 heel sts ... 54 (58) sts.

Working rem in rounds on set of 4 needles, cont as folls and dec for instep.

1st round - Knit.

2nd round - 1st needle - knit to last 4 sts, K2tog, K2, 2nd needle - knit, 3rd needle - K2, sl 1, K1, psso, knit to end.

Rep 1st and 2nd rounds until 10 (11) sts rem on 1st and 3rd needles ... 40 (44) sts.

Cont until work measures 4 (6) cm from side of heel where sts were knitted up.

Shape Toe - 1st round - 1st needle - knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1, 2nd needle - K1, sl 1, K1, psso, knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1, 3rd needle - K1, sl 1, K1, psso, knit to end.

2nd round - Knit.

Rep 1st and 2nd rounds until 20 sts rem.

Next round - Knit.

Next round - Knit 1st needle only.

Slip sts from 3rd needle onto 1st needle and graft sts together.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using C1, make two small pom poms and attach securely to back of anklet as pictured.
