FABULOUS HORSE HOODIE SCARFT

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

• Lion Brand Heartland Thick And Quick 142g x 5 balls Main Colour (M) shade 151 Katmai and 1 ball Contrast Colour (C) shade 126 Sequoia
• 1 pair each 8mm and 6mm knitting needles or sizes needed for correct tension.
• A large crochet hook for fringing
• Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure

TENSION

10 sts x 20 rows to 10cm over garter st, using 8mm needles.

INSTRUCTIONS

SCARF

Using 8mm needles and M, cast on 22 sts loosely. Knit in garter st (1st row is RS when pocket is turned back), until there are approx 2 metres of yarn left from 3rd ball of M, working last row on WS. Cast off loosely.

HOOD

Fold Scarf in half lengthways and mark centre on one side edge with a coloured thread. Measure 13cm down from centre coloured thread and tie a second coloured thread on same edge. Measure 13cm down from centre coloured thread on other side of scarf and tie with a 3rd coloured thread on same edge. Remove centre coloured thread.
With RS facing, using 8mm needles and M, knit up 27 sts evenly between remaing 2 coloured threads.

1st row (WS) - Knit.
2nd row - K8, inc in next st, (K1, inc in next st) 5 times, K8 ... 33 sts. Knit 5 rows garter st.
8th row - K15, inc in next st, K1, inc in next st, K15 ... 35 sts. Knit 5 rows garter st.
14th row - K16, inc in next st, K1, inc in next st, K16 ... 37 sts.
Cont inc in this manner (working 1 more st before and after inc as before) in every foll 6th row until there are 41 sts.
Cont in garter st without shaping until hood measures 30cm, working last row on WS.
Next row (RS) - K19, sl 1, K2tog, K19 ... 39 sts.
Next row - K18, K3tog, K18 ... 37 sts. Cast off loosely.

EARS (make 2)

Using 6mm needles and M, cast on 13 sts.

1st row (WS) - Knit.
2nd row - K1, inc in next st, knit to last 2 sts, inc in next st, K1 ... 15 sts. Rep last 2 rows once ... 17 sts. Knit 12 rows garter st.
17th row - K1, K2tog, knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1 ... 15 sts. Knit 3 rows garter st.
Rep last 4 rows once, then 17th row once ... 11 sts.
Cont dec (as before) in every foll alt row until 5 sts rem. Knit 1 row.
Next row - K1, sl 1, K2tog, psso, K1 ... 3 sts. Knit 1 row. Next row - Sl 1, K2tog, psso ... 1 st. Fasten off.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Fold each end of scarf to RS for 20cm and using a flat seam, join side edges tog to form pockets. Using mattress st, join top of hood seam. Fold lower edges of ears in 3rds over one another to form ear shape. Slip sts lower edges together. Sew ears in position to either side of hood seam, beg approx 5cm from face edge and placing ears approx 5cm apart. Wind C around a piece of cardboard 15cm long and cut along one edge. Using 3 strands of C and a large crochet hook fringe between ears to form forelock, then evenly along top of hood seam and down centre back of hood to Scarf edge to form Mane. Fringe evenly along lower edges of pockets. Trim forelock to desired length.
