SPECIAL STITCHES
2 Treble Cluster (2trcl) = yarn over hook, (insert hook through designated st/sp, draw a loop through, yarn over hook, draw through two loops on hook) twice, yarn over hook, draw through all rem loops on hook, 3 Treble cluster (3trcl) = yarn over hook, (insert hook through designated st/sp, draw a loop through, yarn over hook, draw through two loops on hook) three times, yarn over hook, draw through all rem loops on hook, 2 Double Treble Cluster (2dbltrcl) = yarn over hook, (insert hook through designated st/sp, draw a loop through, yarn over hook, draw through two loops on hook, yarn over hook, draw through two loops on hook) twice, yarn over hook, draw through all rem loops on hook, 3 Double Treble Cluster (3dbltrcl) = yarn over hook, (insert hook through designated st/sp, draw a loop through, yarn over hook, draw through two loops on hook, yarn over hook, draw through two loops on hook) three times, yarn over hook, draw through all rem loops on hook.
Note - This project uses the 'join-as-you-go' method, which is explained in the pattern. Alternatively, make up the completed motifs and sew them together at the corners.

SMALL MOTIF
BEG
Using 4mm hook and C1, make a magic ring, 1st round - 3ch, 2trcl in ring (counts as 3trcl), 3ch, * 3trcl in ring, 1ch, 3trcl in ring, 3ch, rep from * 3 times, 3trcl in ring, 1ch, sl st into 3rd of 3ch at beg.
2nd round - 1ch, 1dc in same st, * 5dc in 3ch sp, 1dc in next cl, 1dc in 1ch sp, 1dc in next cl, rep from * 3 times, 5dc in next 3ch sp, 1dc in next cl, 1dc in 1ch sp, sl st in dc at beg, sl st in next 3 sts.
3rd round - 1ch, 1dc in same st, * 3ch, miss next 3 sts, (3trcl, 3ch, 3trcl) in next st, 3ch, miss next 3 sts, 1dc in next st, rep from * 3 times, 3ch, miss next 3 sts, (3trcl, 3ch, 3trcl) in next st, 3ch, miss next 3 sts, sl st into dc at beg.
Change to C6 - 4th round - 1ch, 1dc in same st, * 3dc in next 3ch sp, 1dc in next cl, 5dc in next 3ch sp, 1dc in next cl, 3dc in next 3ch sp, 1dc in next dc, rep from * 3 times, 3dc in next 3ch sp, 1dc in next cl, 5dc in next 3ch sp, 1dc in next cl, 3dc in next 3ch sp, sl st into dc at beg. Fasten off.
LARGE MOTIF
BEG
Using 4mm hook and C2, make a magic ring, 1st - 3rd rounds - Rep rnds 1-3 of small motif.
4th round - 1ch, 1dc in same st, * 3dc in next 3ch sp, 1dc in next cl, 5dc in next 3ch sp, 1dc in next cl, 3dc in next 3ch sp, 1dc in next dc, rep from * 3 times, 3dc in next 3ch sp, 1dc in next cl, 5dc in next 3ch sp, 1dc in next cl, 3dc in next 3ch sp, sl st into dc at beg.
5th round - 4ch, 2dbltrcl in same st (counts as 3dbltrcl), 5ch, 3dbltrcl in same st, * 5ch, miss next 6 sts, 1dc in next st, 5ch, miss next 6 sts, (3dbltrcl, 5ch, 3dbltrcl) in next st, rep from * 3 times, 5ch, miss next 6 sts, 1dc in next st, 5ch, miss next 6 sts, sl st into 4th of 4ch at beg.
Change to C6 - 6th round - 1ch, 1dc in same st, * 5dc in next 5ch sp, 1dc in next cl, 7dc in next 5ch sp, 1dc in next cl, 5dc in next 5ch sp, 1dc in next dc, rep from * 3 times, 5dc in next 5ch sp, 1dc in next cl, 4dc in next 5ch sp, sl st into centre stitch of corner of small motif, 3dc in same 5ch sp of large motif, 1dc in next cl, 5dc in next 5ch sp, sl st into dc at beg. Fasten off.
Make another small motif using C3, and attach to large motif at opposite corner to first small motif, slip-stitching from the centre st of corner to centre st of corner.. This finishes the first row. Continue adding alternate large and small motifs, working from left to right, bottom to top, with colours in the following order (repeated): C1 (turquoise), C2 (orange), (C3) blue, (C4) red, (C5) yellow.
FINISHING
Sew in ends. Wet or steam block as desired but DO NOT PRESS.
