CROCHET AVIATOR HAT

INSTRUCTIONS

HAT (beg at crown)

Using 5.50mm hook, make a magic loop.

1st round (RS) - 1ch (does not count as a st here and throughout) - 10htr in ring, join with a sl st in first htr, tighten magic ring.

2nd round - 1ch, 2htr in each htr, sl st in first htr ... 20htr.

3rd round - 1ch, (2htr in next htr, 1htr in next htr) 10 times, sl st in first htr ... 30htr.

4th round - 1ch, (2htr in next htr, 1htr in each of next 2htr) 10 times, join with a sl st in first htr ... 40htr.

5th round - 1ch, (2htr in next htr, 1htr in each of next 3htr) 10 times, sl st in first htr ... 50htr.

6th round - 1ch, (2htr in next htr, 1htr in each of next 4htr) 10 times, sl st in first htr ... 60 htr.

7th round - 1ch, 1htr in each htr to end, sl st in first htr.

Rep 7th round 11 times.

Do not fasten off.

Beg First Earflap -

1st row (RS) - 2ch (does not count as a st), 1htr in same st, 1htr each of next 9htr, turn.

Rep 1st row 5 more times ... 6 rows in all.

Fasten off.

Beg Front Flap -

With RS facing, miss 3sts next to last st of first earflap on lower edge of Hat, join C in next st.

1st row (RS) - 1ch, working in front loops only, 1dc in same st, 1dc in each of next 17 sts, turn ... 18dc.

2nd row - 1ch, 1dc in same st, 1dc in each dc to end, turn.

Rep 2nd row 8 more times ... 10 rows in all.

Fasten off.

Beg Second Earflap -

With RS facing, miss 3sts next to last st of front flap on lower edge of Hat, join M in next st.

Complete as for First Earflap.

EDGING

With WS facing and using 5.50mm hook, join C in lower edge of Hat at centre back.

1st round - work dc evenly around lower edge of hat, taking care to keep work flat and working 3dc in each corner of earflaps and front flap, sl st in first dc.

2nd round - 1ch, 1dc in each dc to end, sl st in first dc.

Fasten off.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Sew in ends. Fold front flap to RS and sew on buttons as pictured to fasten front flap in position.
