Abbey Road Wool To Be Wild Turtle Neck Vest Project

What you'll need:

Abbey Road Wool To Be Wild 100g x 3 (4-4-5) balls Main Colour (MC-pink), 2 (2-2-2) balls Contrast Colour 1 (CC1-green) and 1 (1-2-2) balls Contrast Colour 2 (CC2-light blue).

  • 1 pair each 5mm and 6mm knitting needles, or sizes required for correct tension
  • 2 Stitch-holders
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Tension

16 sts and 20 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 5.5 mm needles.

Note: Larger needles are used for the turned over part of the turtleneck collar.

Instructions

Back

Using MC, 5.5mm CO 78 (86-94-102) sts.


Beg Rib

1st row (RS) - K1, K2, P2, rep from to last st, K1

Rep 1st row until rib measures 5cm, working last row on WS.


Beg Patt

Note - When changing colours in the middle of a row, twist the colour to be used (on WS) underneath and to the right of the colour just used, working firmly at joins. Use a separate ball of yarn for each section of colour.

1st row (RS) - Section 1 using CC1 K26 (29-31-34) sts, section 2 using MC K26 (28-32-34) sts, section 3 using CC1 K26 (29-31-34) sts.

2nd row - Using colours as placed in previous row, purl.

Work in stocking st (RS knit, WS purl) changing colours as follows: section 1 stripes are 4 rows of each colour in the order CC1, CC2, MC. Section 2 blocks are 26 rows of each colour in the order MC, CC2. Section 3 blocks are 26 rows of each colour in the order CC1, MC.

Cont in patt until work measures 30cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to mark beg of armholes as there is no armhole shaping.

Cont in patt until armholes measure 19 (20-21-22) cm from coloured threads, working last row on WS.


Shape Shoulders

Cast off 9 (10-11-12) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then 8 (9-10-11) sts at beg of next 4 rows.

Leave rem 28 (30-32-34) sts on a stitch-holder.


Front

Work as for back until .

Cont in patt until armholes measure 11 (12-13-14) cm from coloured threads, working last row on WS.


Shape Neck

1st row (RS) - K34 (38-41-45) sts, turn, cont on these sts for left side.

2nd row (WS) - Cast off 3 sts, purl to end 31 (35-38-42) sts.

3rd row and all RS rows- knit.

4th row - Cast off 2 sts, purl to end 29 (33-36-40) sts.

6th row - as 4th row 27 (31-34-38) sts.

7th row - as 3rd row.

Next - Cast off 1 st at beg of next and alt rows 2 (3-3-4) times. 25 (28-31-34) sts.

Cont in patt until armholes measure 19 (20-21-22) cm from coloured threads, working last row on WS.


Shape Left Shoulder

1st row (RS) - Cast off 9 (10-11-12) sts at beg of row.

2nd row (WS) - Purl.

3rd row - cast off 8 (9-10-11) sts at beg of next row.

4th row - as 2nd row.

Cast off rem 8 (9-10-11) sts.

Place 10 (10-12-12) sts on stitch-holder for front neck.

With RS facing join yarn to rem 34 (38-41-45) sts to work right side of neck.


Shape Neck

1st row (RS) - Cast off 3 sts, knit to end 31 (35-38-42) sts.

2nd row and all WS rows - purl.

3rd row - Cast off 2 sts, knit to end of row 29 (33-36-40) sts.

5th row - as 3rd row 27 (31-34-38) sts.

Next - Cast off 1 st at beg of next and alt rows 2 (3-3-4) times. 25 (28-31-34) sts.

Cont in patt until armholes measure 19 (20-21-22) cm from coloured threads, working last row on RS.


Shape Right Shoulder

1st row (WS) - Cast off 9 (10-11-12) sts at beg of row.

2nd row (RS) - Knit.

3rd row - cast off 8 (9-10-11) sts at beg of next row.

4th row - as 2nd row.

Cast off rem 8 (9-10-11) sts.


Turtleneck

Using mattress st, join left shoulder seam.

With RS facing, starting at back neck, using 5.5mm needles and MC, knit up 70 (74-74-78) sts evenly around neck edge, including sts on stitch-holders.

Work in rib as for back until neckband measures 10cm, change to larger needles and continue in rib until neckband measures 20cm from beg, working last row on WS. Cast off loosely in rib.


Finishing

DO NOT PRESS. Join right shoulder and neck seam, reversing seam for half of rib rows. Join side seams to coloured threads (removing threads). Weave in ends. Fold turtleneck over onto RS.
