Whether you need rainbow cake boards for your child's birthday party cake or an elegant round cake board with a marble design for your anniversary cake, you can find the perfect cake boards right here!

How to use a cake board

Cake boards serve as the final surface for your cake to rest on before it's cut and served onto plates. Once your cake has cooled, you may like to move it straight onto your cake board for decorating. If you are making use of a cake turntable to help you decorate, you will need to carefully lift the cake from the turntable onto the cake board when finished instead.

If you have trouble lifting cake boards up, consider gluing small 'legs' onto the underside before you place your cake on it. These can be anything from wooden cubes to the clear rubber feet you'd use for furniture.

Cake board FAQs

What is a cake board?

A cake board is a sturdy, dense board, usually around 0.5cm to 1cm thick, that is used to carry and display cakes. Cake boards are extremely rigid and strong and are designed to hold heavy cakes easily. Cake boards come in round, square and rectangular shapes, and can be found featuring many different colours and prints.

How to cover a cake board

Whether you're covering your cake board with fondant, baking paper or a decorative wrap, you should first lay the material out flat on your bench. Place the cake board in the centre and use either a pencil or a knife to lightly line around the board. Remove it, then measure 3cm up from your line and create a second outline. This extra length gives the material plenty of length to fold around under the board. Cut out the material and wrap it around your cake board - if using a non-edible material, finish with strong craft tape.

How to keep cheesecake from sliding on cake board

If you are worried about your cheesecake sliding off the board when you travel, grab yourself a roll of some anti-slip mat, also known as a grip mat. You'll often see them used for household appliances, but they're useful for cakes too! These textured mats can be cut to fit the shape of your cake and can sit between your cake board and the cake itself to help keep it in place. Be careful when cutting your cake not to cut into the grip mat.
