Ceramic and glass paints are specifically designed for these surfaces, and while you can use regular acrylic paint on them, they may not be as long-lasting or durable as paints crafted for use on them only. Most glass or ceramic paints need to be baked on, which makes them extra-long lasting!

How to paint glass

Prepare the glass by washing it and finishing with a class-cleaning product that will remove any oils. Once dry, you can start adding glass paint (or special frosted glass paint) in thin layers, not thick ones. Once the paint has dried, you may need to bake your glass in the oven to cure the paint.

How to paint ceramic

Clean the ceramic thoroughly to ensure there is no dust, lint or hair on your ceramic item. Once the ceramic is dry, you can then apply your ceramic paint. Use multiple thin layers instead of a single thick layer, and once the paint has dried follow the instructions on your paint to bake the ceramic to cure the paint.

How to seal paint on ceramic

Glass and ceramic paints are sealed by baking them in the oven. This will make them safe to use in the dishwasher and resistant to detergent, solvents and alcohol. You won't need to add a varnish for protection, although you can if you'd like to give your glass or ceramic product a shiny or matte coating.
