INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1 - Cut your fabric as follows:

  • Small gift bag - cut 2 strips 5.5" x 4"
  • Medium gift bag - cut 2 strips 8" x 5"
  • Large gift bag - cut 2 strips 12" x 7"

Step 2 - Overlock the raw edges of each strip of fabric.

Step 3 - With the pattern facing down of each strip, mark 1" (2.5cm) from the top and 1 ¾" (4.5cm) down - this leaves a gap to thread the ribbon through later. Place fabric strips right sides together and pin in place.

Step 4 - On each side, stitch from the top to the 1" (2.5cm) mark with a ¼″ (6mm) seam allowance and backstitch well. Leave a ¾" (2cm) and continue stitching from the 1 ¾" (4.5cm) mark down the side edge to the bottom and backstitch well. Stitch across the bottom and backstitch well.

Step 5 - Clip the bottom corners.

Step 6 - At the top of the bag, open the side seams with your fingers. Fold the top edge over 1" (2.5cm) all the way around to align with the side seam openings and press with an iron.

Step 7 - Stitch around the bottom folded edge to form a casing, make sure the pattern is facing down. There is no need to leave a gap as the ribbon will be threaded through the gap in the side seam.

Step 8 - Turn the bag to the right side and use a bamboo skewer or chopstick to push the corners out. Press the bag with an iron.

Step 9 - Cut your ribbon in half and thread each piece through the gaps in the side seams using a safety pin. At each end, tie the ribbons together in a knot.
