MARVEL 8 PLY CHRISTMAS WREATH
Level: Intermediate
What you'll need:
- 4 Seasons Marvel 8 Ply 100 g balls:
- Main Colour (M) White x 1
- Col. 1 (C1) Red x 1
- Col. 2 (C2) Cadmium x 1
- Col. 3 (C3) Sage x 1
- 7 mm and 4 mm Knitting needles
- Cable Needle
- Craft Deco Foam Wreath 350 mm
- PVA Glue (with nozzle)
- Fabric Glue (with nozzle)
- Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure
Tension
Correct tension is not essential for this project.
Special Abbreviations
C6B - Slip next 3 sts onto cable needle and leave at back of work, K3, then K3 from cable needle.
C6F - Slip next 3 sts onto cable needle and leave at front of work, K3, then K3 from cable needle.
Instructions
Using 7 mm needles and 2 strands of M held tog, cast on 23 sts.
Note - Use one end from the outside of ball and one end from the centre of ball.
1st row (RS) - Knit.
2nd row - K7, P9, K7.
3rd row - K7, C6B, K10.
4th row - As 2nd row.
Rep 1st and 2nd rows once.
7th row (RS) - K10, C6F, K7.
8th row - As 2nd row.
Rows 1 to 8 incl form patt.
Cont in patt until work measures 110 cm (slightly stretched in centre of work), working last row on WS.
Cast off.
Bow
Using 4 mm needles and 1 strand of C1, cast on 21 sts.
Knit in garter st (1st row is WS), until work measures 7.5 cm from beg, working last row on WS.
Next row - (Sl 1, K2tog, psso) 7 times … 7 sts.
Next row - Knit.
Next row - (K1, P1, K1) in each st to end … 21 sts.
Knit in garter st, until work measures 7.5 cm from inc row, working last row on RS.
Cast of knitways on WS.
Bow Centre - Using 4 mm needles and 1 strand of C1, cast on 11 sts.
Knit in garter st (1st row is WS), until work measures 7cm from beg, working last row on WS.
Cast off knitways.
Bow Tails - Using 4 mm needles and 1 strand of C1, cast on 11 sts.
Knit in garter st (1st row is WS), until work measures 15cm from beg, working last row on RS.
Cast off.
Holly Leaf
Using 4 mm needles and 1 strand of C2, cast on 5 sts.
Work 2 rows stocking st.
3rd row - Inc in first st, (K1, yfwd) twice, K1, inc in last st … 9 sts.
4th row - Purl.
5th row - K4, yfwd, K1, yfwd, K4 … 11 sts.
6th row - Purl.
7th row - K5, yfwd, K1, yfwd, K5 … 13 sts.
8th row - Purl.
9th row - Cast off 3 sts, K3 (incl st already on needle after cast off), yfwd, K1, yfwd, knit to end … 12 sts.
10th row - Cast off 3 sts purlways, purl to end … 9 sts.
Rep rows 5 to 8 incl once.
15th row - Cast off 3 sts, knit to end … 10 sts.
16th row - Cast off 3 sts purlways, purl to end … 7 sts.
17th row - Sl 1, K1, psso, K3, K2tog … 5 sts.
18th row - Purl.
19th row - Sl 1, K1, psso, K1, K2tog … 3 sts.
20th row - Purl.
21st row - Sl 1, K2tog, psso … 1 st.
Fasten off.
Make a further 3 leaves each using C2 and C3.
Sew in ends. Block leaves to shape and allow to dry.
Berries (make 9)
Using 4 mm needles and C2, cast on 1 st leaving a long thread.
1st row (WS) - (K1, P1, K1, P1, K1) all in one st … 5 sts.
Work 3 rows stocking st, beg with a knit row.
5th row (WS) - P2tog, P1, P2tog … 3 sts.
6th row - K3tog, leaving a long thread … 1 st.
Fasten off.
Tie threads tog to form berry. Sew in ends.
Finishing
DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, join cast on and cast off ends of Wreath tog to form a ring. Drizzle in a zig-zag line of PVA glue over front of Deco Foam. Place Wreath section over Deco Foam so that the cable is facing the front as pictured. Slip sts side edges of Wreath section tog. Allow to dry. Using fabric glue, glue Holly leaves in position as pictured. Join cast-on and cast-off edges of bow centre tog to form a ring. Join side edges of bow centre tog. Thread bow through centre, then thread bow tails behind bow as pictured. Glue in position as pictured. Glue berries in position at lower edges of leaves as pictured.
