Why you'll love lace curtains

Lace curtains, like many sheer curtains, provide a measure of privacy while still allowing you to enjoy the views outside your home. They diffuse the natural light coming into a room, but not as much as a solid sheer curtain. This gives you a brighter, clearer room in which you can enjoy the natural light!

Lace curtains have a dreamy, romantic look that suits Victorian-style and vintage homes, and are perfect if you want to make any room look a little more formal. Most lace curtains are white, although you can also find black lace curtains which are great for creating a spooky or gothic look in a space.

Lace curtain FAQs

What are lace curtains?

Lace curtains are window furnishings, usually made from polyester, that are used for privacy or decoration. They let light through, so should be used in conjunction with blockout curtains for complete light control.

Lace curtains have a refined, delicate lacey design that makes them more fragile than solid curtains. White lace curtains are the most common, but you can find other colours, such as black, available in some places as well.

How to wash lace curtains

Most lace curtains can be washed in your machine on a warm, delicate cycle, Put them in a large delicates bag if possible. Do not let them tumble dry - instead, carefully line dry in the shade, or dry flat in the shade. Lace curtains can also be hand washed, but do not vigorously rub or wring them as this can tear the lace.

How to clean mould off lace curtains

Remove the curtains and take them outside - wear a mask as you clean so you don't inhale the spores. Use a stiff brush to carefully loosen the mould on your lace curtains. Rub firmly but carefully so you don't rip the lace. Create a mixture of 1 part bleach to 4 parts water and use a spray bottle to spray the affected areas from at least 30cm away. You can then pop your curtains into the machine to wash as normal. You may like to add a cup of baking soda to the drum to help remove any odours.
