Stencil FAQs
What is a stencil?
A stencil is a piece of plastic, card, wood or metal that has images, letters or numbers cut out of the middle of it. Colour can be applied over the stencil and its gaps to leave an image on paper, wood or any other flat surface. Stencils are reusable and are used when a neat and uniform image, letter or number is needed to be made in a timely manner.
How to make a stencil
You can make your own stencil using a thick paper or card. Place your card onto a cutting mat, secure it with tape then draw the outline of your stencil using pencil or marker. Use a sharp box cutter or craft knife to cut out your stencil, which will ensure you don't accidentally rip your material as you cut.
How to use stencil paper
Stencil paper is a material designed to make creating your own stencils easy! This rigid, clear paper is perfect for cutting your own stencils using a sharp knife or box cutter. You can trace your image by placing it underneath the stencil paper, or use a cookie cutter as your guide instead!
