HUDSON CROCHET BEANIE AND SCARF

Hudson Crochet Beanie & Scarf Project

Level: Beginner

What you'll need:

  • Moda Vera Hudson 100g x 6 balls

  • 7 mm crochet hook or size required to give correct tension

  • Scissors

  • Yarn needle

  • Tape measure

  • Pompom maker or purchased pompom (optional)

Finished Size

Beanie: 50 cm circumference (approx)

Scarf: 190 x 29 cm (approx)

Tension

12.5 sts and 10 rows to 10 cm over patt using 7 mm hook.

Instructions

Note: Beanie is made by working the band first, then picking up stitches along the band to work the rest of the beanie. Scarf is worked longways. There is no right or wrong side to the stitch pattern, so you determine which side you prefer to be shown for the Beanie.


Special Abbreviations

Bldc - back loop double crochet - work dc into the back loop of the stitch only

Dc2tog - double crochet 2 sts together (decreasing from 2 sts to 1 st) - insert hook into next st, pull loop through, insert hook into foll st, pull a loop through, yarn over hook and pull through all 3 loops on hook




Beanie

Beg Band - Using a 4mm hook, make 11 ch.

1st row - Miss 1ch, 1dc in each ch to end … 10 sts.

2nd row - 1ch (does not count as a st here and throughout), 1bldc in same and each st to end.

Rep 2nd row until 64 rows are completed - do not fasten off.

Turn to work along length of band.

1st row - 1ch, 1dc in each row to end … 64 sts.

2nd row - 2ch (does not count as a stitch here and throughout), 1tr in same and each st to end.

3rd row - 1ch, 1dc in same and each st to end.

Rows 2 and 3 form patt. Rep 2nd and 3rd rows until Beanie measures approx 25cm, ending with a 2nd row.

Beg decrease -

1st row - 1ch, 1dc in same and next 2sts, dc2tog, 1dc in each of next 6 sts, rep from to last 5 sts, dc2tog, 1dc in each of last 3 sts … 56 sts.

2nd row - 2ch, 1tr in same and each st to end.

3rd row - 1ch, 1dc in same st, dc2tog, 1dc in each of next 2 sts, dc2tog, rep from to last st, 1dc in last st … 42 sts.

4th row - Rep 2nd row of decrease.

5th row - 1ch, 1dc in same st, dc2tog, 1dc in next st, dc2tog, rep from to end … 28 sts.

6th row - Rep 2nd row of decrease.

7th row - 1ch, dc2tog same and next st, dc2tog to end … 14 sts.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.


Finishing

DO NOT PRESS. Using long yarn tail twisted to prevent drifting apart, gather tightly top of beanie by passing the needle through the top of each stitch of last row and fastening firmly, continue to sew seam down to band, reverse seam excess to other side on band for a neater finish. Make (following pompom maker directions) or use purchased pompom, and sew to top of beanie if desired. Sew in ends. Fold up band.


Scarf

Using a 4mm hook, make 231 ch.

1st row - Miss 1ch, 1dc in back bump of each ch to end … 230 sts.

2nd row - 2ch (does not count as a st), 1tr in same and each st to end.

3rd row - 1ch (does not count as a st), 1dc in same and each st to end.

Rep 2nd and 3rd rows until Scarf measures approx 27cm, ending with a 3rd row, turn.

Beg edging -

1st round - 1ch, 1htr in same st, 1htr in each st to last st, 3htr in last st, rotate to work across end of Scarf, work 44htr evenly across end of scarf, rotate to work along opp long edge, 3htr in 1st st of long edge, 1htr in each st to last st, 3htr in last st, rotate to work across opp end, work 44htr evenly across end, 2htr in same st as htr at beg, sl st into htr at beg.

Fasten off.


Finishing

DO NOT PRESS. Sew in ends.
