What you'll need:

Finished Size

Approx. 25 cm wide x 20 cm deep

Tension

10 sts x 13 rows to 10 cm over pattern using 7 mm knitting needles

Instructions

Note: For joining in a new ball of material, it's recommended to sew ends together by machine or by hand to reduce bulk.

3-NEEDLE CAST-OFF: Put 2 pieces, right sides together. Hold the needles parallel and put a third needle into the first stitch on each of the two parallel needles, yarn over needle and pull through both stitches. Repeat on next stitch ... two sts on right hand needle and start casting-off. Repeat to end.




Body

Cast on 52sts (12-14-14-12 sts on 4 of the 5 needles). Join into the round without twisting cast-on.

Purl 3 rnds.

Beg Basket Weave pattern -

1st Rnd - K2, P2 to end of rnd.

2nd Rnd - K2, P2 to end of rnd.

3rd Rnd - Knit

4th Rnd - P2, K2 to end of rnd.

5th Rnd - P2, K2 to end of rnd.

6th Rnd - Knit.

Rep 1st to 6th Rnd another 4 times, then 1st to 3rd Rnd once ... 33 Rnds pattern.

Carefully turn piece inside out, holding right sides together with needles 1 & 4 and 2 & 3 held close together, perform 3-needle cast-off, fasten off and sew in ends.


Straps (Make 2)

Using 7 mm straight needles, cast on 35sts, turn and cast off on first row, fasten off leaving long tail.


Strap for fastener

Using 7 mm straight needles, cast on 30sts, turn and cast off on first row, fasten off leaving long tail.


Finishing

Fold Strap for Fastener in half, using tail and a flat seam, slip stitch together up halfway, leaving a loop opening. Attach fastener to loop. Attach ring of buckle fastener to Body of Clutch. Attach Straps to Clutch below the 3 Rnds of purl stitch, sew in all ends securely.


Optional

Replace buckle fastener with a toggle or button and thread through loop.

Make a tassel using a 10 cm long piece of cardboard, wrap material around about 6 times. Once tassel is made up, cut each material strip 3x. Using some material attached to the top of the Tassel, thread through a bead and attach to Clutch.
