TULLE BOWS

LEVEL: EASY
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- 1.0m tulle
- Stiff cardboard
- Sewing needle
- Matching thread
- Thick twine or strong thread
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Pins
INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1 - Fold the tulle lengthwise in half and then half again, ensuring edges line up. Pin to secure and make it easier to cut. When separated after cutting the cut tulle will become long strips.
Step 2 - For each small bow:
- Cut one rectangular piece of cardboard 15cm wide x 9cm high
- Cut 3 x strips of tulle - 2 x 9cm in height and 1 x 3cm in height
Step 3 - For each large bow:
- Cut one rectangular piece of cardboard 23cm wide x 14cm high
- Cut 3 x strips of tulle - 3 x 14cm in height and 1 x 5cm in height
Step 4 - Using the cardboard templates, wrap the corresponding height tulle strips around the width of the rectangle front and back. (One wrap front and back is a full rotation) For a small bow wrap 8 rotations, for a large bow wrap 10 rotations.
Note - more or less rotations will provide you with a fuller or leaner bow dependant on your preference.
Step 5 - Gently slide the cardboard template out of the wrapped tulle, ensuring the layers remain intact.
Step 6 - Place your hand in the centre securing the layers, cut each edge fold from the inside out removing the side folds. You will be left with layered rectangles.
Step 7 - Gently scrunching the centre of the rectangles of tulle together, wrap thread/twine around the centre multiple times tightly. Ensure each side of the bow is even and is gathered nicely. Tie thread with a double knot to secure and snip excess away.
Step 8 - Using the short height strip (3cm or 5cm), start wrapping this around the centre of the bow, hiding the thread and adding some width. Wrap approx. 10 times dependent on your preference. Secure to back of bow with pin.
Step 9 - Using needle and thread, secure centre wrapped tulle at rear of bow stitching with needle and thread, secure thread and cut excess. Remove pin.
Step 10 - Adjust bow to suit. You have completed your bow.
