2tr cluster = yoh and draw up a lp in next st, yoh and draw through 2 lps, rep from once in same st, yoh and draw through all 3 lps on hook.

3tr cluster = yoh and draw up a lp in next st, yoh and draw through 2 lps, rep from twice in same st, yoh and draw through all 4 lps on hook.

Note: When changing colours, DO NOT CUT YARN, draw up new colour as you work the next chain, carry colours loosely along back of work, and catch behind stitches as you work, to ensure concealed from spaces. Count 1ch-sp in number of sts to skip.

Granny Square Tree Motif - Make 5

1st Rnd (RS) - Using C2, make a Magic Ring, 5ch (counts as 1tr & 2ch), 3tr, (2ch, 3tr) twice, 2ch, 2tr all worked into cente of ring, tighten Magic Ring, slst in 5ch-lp at beg of rnd.

Fabric Cover for Cushion Insert

Step 1 - Cut both pieces of Homespun fabric to size 43 cm x 43 cm.

Step 2 - Sew tog with a 1.5 cm seam allowance, leaving a 15 cm opening for turning inside out.

Step 3 - Trim corners, turn inside out.

Step 4 - Insert cushion and stitch opening closed using an invisible stitch.

1st row - Tree, Snowflake, Tree

2nd row - Snowflake, Tree, Snowflake

3rd row - Tree, Snowflake, Tree.

Finishing

Joining Squares

Vertical joints - Using C1 and wrong sides held tog, working from right to left, join squares of each row as set out above. Working through back lps only, draw up a lp of first 2 squares, 1ch, 1dc in same st, 1dc in each st to end, DO NOT CUT YARN.

Cont on, joining next square in same manner … one row of 3 squares joined.

Rep from to for rem 2 rows of 3 squares each, following square sequence as set out above.

Join these 3 rows vertically (according to square sequence set out above), in same manner.

Joining Front & Back

Using C1, join Front & Back on 3 sides (leaving an opening on last side), in same manner as joining squares starting with drawing up a lp and 1ch and working (1dc, 1ch, 1dc) in corner sps.

Next - Insert covered cushion with red as the back, join opening on Front & Back cover by cont in same manner as joining 3 sides, slst in 1ch at beg of rnd, fasten off.

Border

1st Rnd - Using C2, draw up a lp in lower corner, 3ch, (counts as 1htr and 1ch), 1htr in each st to next corner, (1htr 1ch, 1htr) in corner- sp, cont to end of rnd, sl st in 3ch at beg.

2nd Rnd - 3ch, (counts as 1htr and 1ch), 1htr in each st to next corner, (1htr 1ch, 1htr) in corner- sp, cont to end of rnd, sl st in 3ch at beg, fasten off.

Sew in all ends.
