Spot Saver Christmas Sack Project

Level: Beginner

What you'll need:

  • 4 Seasons Spot Saver 10 ply 200 g x 1 ball each:
    • 1st Colour (C1) Mallard
    • 2nd Colour (C2) White
    • 3rd Colour (C3) Red
  • 1 pair 5 mm Knitting needles, and 2 double-pointed 5 mm knitting needles or size required for correct tension
  • Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure.

Finished Size

Approx 50 (W) x 70 (L) cm

Tension

17 sts x 23 rows to 10 cm over stocking st, using 5 mm needles.

Instructions

Sack (make 2 pieces)

Using 5 mm needles and C1, cast on 87 sts.

Work 22 rows stocking st.

Using C2, work 22 rows stocking st.

Using C3, work 22 rows stocking st.

Using C2, work 22 rows stocking st.

Using C1, work 22 rows stocking st.

Using C2, work 22 rows stocking st.

Using C3, knit 2 rows garter st.

Next row (RS) - K1, K2tog, yfwd, rep from to last st, K2.

Cont in garter st, until C3 stripe measures 10 cm, working last row on RS.

Cast off loosely knitways on WS.


I-Cord

Using 2 double-pointed 5 mm needles and C3 cast on 4 sts.

1st row - Knit, do not turn.

Slip sts to other end of needle, pull yarn firmly across back of work and rep 1st row.

Work each row in same direction until i-cord measures 140 cm.

Break off yarn, thread end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.


Finishing

DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, join lower and side edges tog matching stripes. Thread i-cord through eyelet row and fasten with a bow at centre front of Sack.
