POPPY TOTE BAG

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

• 40cms, 115cm x wide Poppy Cotton Print Large
• 1 metre, 115cm x wide Poppy Cotton Print Small
• Scissors, matching thread
• Tape measure
• Sewing Machine
• Iron

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1

Bag & Lining: Cut 1 piece, of each design, 114cms wide x 36cms long.
Band: Cut 2, 84cms wide x 12cms long.
Handles: Cut 2, 12cms wide x 94cms long (can be cut using width of fabric as the length).

Step 2

With right sides facing, fold bag and lining pieces in half (separately), pin sides and base. Sew using a 1.5cm seam allowance. Turn bag to right side, and leave lining inside out. Place lining inside bag, and pin around raw edge, matching seams.

Step 3

With right sides facing, fold Ties in half lengthways and sew using a 1cm seam allowance. Turn to right side. Press seam flat.

Step 4

With right sides facing, fold bands in half (narrow sides together), pin and sew using a 1.5cm seam allowance. Press seams flat.

Step 5

With right sides facing pin one band to bag and lining, by matching seam and halfway points first. Fashion pleats in bag to fit band, spacing will be roughly 6cms with 2cms in each pleat (6 pleats in all).

Step 6

Measure in from each side of the band seam 6cms, and pin one strap with raw edge to top. Mark centre point of band, and measure in 6cms and pin other side of strap. Repeat on other side for second strap. With right sides facing, pin second band piece
to top matching seams. Stitch together using a 1.5cm seam allowance.

Step 7

Understitch the inside band, then press fold. Fold under the inside band raw edge 1cm and pin down the band (on right side), flat to cover the stitch line. With the right side facing, ditch stitch to sew the band inside, in place, ensuring folded edge is sewn.
