FELT HAND PUPPETS

Instructions

Reference the downloadable project sheet for project pattern diagrams.

Step 1 - Use the Body stencil to cut out two pieces of felt. Use the EARS stencil to cut out two pieces felt. Use NOSE stencil to cut out pieces in contrasting colours. For Bat, use WING stencil to cut out two pieces of felt. For Red Panda, use TAIL stencil to cut out one piece of felt. Cut out Stripes in contrasting colours.

Tip - If you are using felt for the eyes, use the EYE stencil to cut them out with additional felt

Step 2 - For Red Panda, place Cheek piece on a Main Body piece. Sew in place. For both, Place Nose/Mouth piece and Eye pieces (or Buttons) on a Main Body piece. Sew in place.

Tip - You could also create the face using paints.

Step 3 - Place Ear pieces on the top of the same Body piece, making sure their bottom edge is on the wrong side of the fabric. Baste.

Step 4 - For Bat, Place Wing pieces on the arms of the Body piece, making sure their top edge is on the wrong side of the fabric. Baste.

For Red Panda, Place Stripe pieces on top of Tail piece. Sew in place. Place new Tail piece on top of second Main Body piece. Sew in place

Step 5 - Place the two Body pieces together, wrong sides together. Sew around the edges.

Tip - A Blanket Stitch creates a nice look, but be careful around the ears and wings.
