JOLLY & JOY CHRISTMAS BOTTLE BAG
Level: Beginner
What you'll need:
- Single Colour Version:
- Jolly & Joy Twist Yarn, 100 g ball, Col. 1 (C1) Lilac x 1
- Semco Stallion 8 Ply, 100 g ball, Col. 2 (C2) Purple x 1
- Jolly & Joy Tinsel Yarn, 50 g ball, Col. 3 (C3) Gold x 1 (Embroidery)
- Stripe Version:
- Jolly & Joy Twist Yarn, 100g ball Col. 4 (C4) Dark Blue x 1
- Semco Stallion 8 Ply, 100g ball Col. 5 (C5) Blue x 1
- Jolly & Joy Tinsel Yarn, 50g ball, Col. 6 (C6) Red
- Both Versions:
- Size 5.50 mm Knitting needles or size required to give correct tension.
- Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure.
Measurements
Finished size: Fits a standard 750 ml wine bottle.
Tension
16 sts and 26 rows to 10 cm over stocking st, using 5.50 mm needles and 2 strands of yarn held together.
Instructions
Single Colour Version
Using 5.50 mm needles and 1 strand of C1 & C2 held together, cast on 42 sts.
Beg Rib -
1st row (RS) - K3, P3, rep from to end.
2nd row - K3, P3, rep from to end.
Rep 1st and 2nd row until work measures 3.5cm from beg, ending with a 1st row.
Eyelet Row (WS) - K2, yon, P2tog tbl, P2, yon, K2tog, rep from to last 4 sts, yon, P2tog tbl, P2.
Cont in rib until work measures 7.5 cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row
Cont in stocking st until work measures 31 cm from beg, ending with a knit row.
Form Ridge (WS) -
With left-hand needle, pick up purl bump of next st 6 rows down, purl this stitch together with next stitch on needle, rep to end of row.
This will form a ridge on the right side of work.
Beg Base -
1st row (RS) - sl 1, K1, psso, K2, K2tog, rep from to end … 28 sts.
2nd row - Purl.
3rd row - sl 1, K1, psso, K2tog, rep from to end … 14 sts.
4th row - Purl.
5th row - sl 1, K1, psso, K2, rep from to last 2 sts, sl 1, K1, psso … 10 sts.
6th row - P2tog, rep from to end … 5 sts.
Break off yarn leaving a long end. Run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.
Stripe Version
As per Single Colour Version using C4 & C5 held together ending on
Beg stripes -
Next 4 rows - Using 1 strand of C4 & C5 held together, work 4 rows stocking st.
Next 2 rows - Using 2 strands of C6 held together, work 2 rows stocking st.
Rep last 6 rows until work measures 31cm from beg, ending with 3 rows of C4 & C5 held together.
Cont using C4 & C5 held together for rem and follow Single Colour Version from to end.
Finishing
Both Versions - DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress stitch, neatly sew seam.
Twisted Cord - Make a twisted cord, using 1 strand of C1 & C2 (C4 & C5) together, cutting a length approx. 2.5metres long.
Single Colour Version Only - Using C3 embroider stars as pictured randomly to bag. Thread twisted cord through eyelets, beg and ending at one side. Trim ends to form tassels.
Stripe Version Only - Thread twisted cord through eyelets, beg and ending at centre front. Using 1 strand of C4 & C5 together, make two pom poms and attach to each end of twisted cord as pictured.
